Our Lincolnshire is the north-west corner of the county, along the Trent and the Ancholme: Scunthorpe, Brigg and Gainsborough, and they could hardly be more different. Scunthorpe is a steel town built largely in the twentieth century, with more than a quarter of the homes around it from 1945 to 1964 and a strong 1930s band, so wall ties, original roofs and post-war construction methods come up often, and older stock is scarce. Brigg is a small market town on the Ancholme whose largest era is 1965 to 1982. Gainsborough is the old Trent port, with a fifth of its homes built before 1900 and a quarter since 2000. Much of this ground is low, beside the tidal Trent and the drained land along the Ancholme, so the flood map is the first check on many addresses here.
